Sierra Canyon girls basketball wins tournament, other teams have big performances

The holiday break, for many people, means less work and more relaxation. High school girls basketball teams, however, were grinding away at holiday tournaments in preparation for their respective league seasons.

Here’s how some teams from the Daily News coverage area fared in tournament play:

WEST COAST JAMBOREE

Sierra Canyon won the highest division — the Platinum Division — of the West Coast Jamboree, which was held last week in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Trailblazers (13-1) went unbeaten in the eight-team bracket and beat Folsom 68-57 in the championship game.

They defeated Sage Hill 81-57 in the semifinals and were led by Mackenly Randolph’s 25 points. Sophomore Jerzy Robinson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Izela Arenas scored 15 points and Emilia Krstevski added 13 points.

Randolph was named the tournament MVP and Robinson and Krstevski were both named all-tournament.

Chaminade (8-5) and Harvard-Westlake (4-12) competed in the West Coast Jamboree in the Diamond Division, which was the second-highest division.

Chaminade lost to Clovis, a CIF Central Section semifinalist last season, in the championship game.

Harvard-Westlake played two games in the tournament and lost to Clovis and Kinkaid. Canyon (8-10 overall, 3-0 in Foothill League) went 2-1 in the Turquoise Division.
